Biog

Both art and technology have been particular interests of mine since my schooldays in Barking, Essex. Switching from research physics at the University of London to art schools in Essex and Cardiff, I finally managed to combine the two in film making at the National Film & TV School. This led to a twenty year career as a film sound recordist.

It was in the late sixties that I discovered experimental cinema and the London Filmmakers' Coop. I used 8mm and when I could afford it, 16mm film to explore the possibilities of abstract and poetic moving images. These films were usually silent but were shown with separately composed, multi-track sounds. At art school I was able to explore the new medium of video. The old black & white, reel to reel format is sadly not viewable these days.

Since 2006, when I retired from commercial cinema, I have been using digital media to create short films and giclée prints. I have also set up CMS4artists, a small company to help local artists photograph, archive and distribute their work.
