Statement
“My work often begins with a photograph of a place, of people or a texture. Then, by collaging in other sources such as drawings, diagrams, text etc. and applying digital processes from the vast array now available on today's computers, I squeeze and push and nudge towards a finished piece.”
”My interests are in chaos and pattern; space (or void) and structure. I use what is recognisable to create unreal, sometimes surreal, places. A term I sometimes use to describe myself is 'romantic structuralist'.”
”At present I am investigating the possibilities of stereo vision. Using techniques developed in the Victorian era, which I am adapting to digital processes, I am exploring the effects of exposing each eye to differing images.” Explore the work in progress on the stereo page
”My movies take a great variety of forms. In 2007 I made a completed film on each day of the month of July. The result was 'A Month of Movies'. Thirty one films in all, they range from abstract patterns to anti-war text-only film: from animation to documentary footage of the 2007 floods in Gloucestershire.” View all 31 films on A Month of Movies
”Although I was a filmmaker long before I began making prints, I think of many of my films as moving images rather than narrative films. That doesn't mean they don't have a beginning, middle and end; in fact, my interest in structuralism means they most definitely do; and in that order.”
