Beauty & the Spider by George Richards

Beauty & the Spider

A set of stereoscopic prints. Each adjacent pair will produce a 3D image when viewed through a stereo viewer or stereoscope giving five separate 3d images. Click on the image above to view the prints in their stereo pairs.

Pebbles by George Richards

Pebbles

This is an early attempt at an artificially created 3D image.

If you have access to a stereoscope, you can download and print a copy of Pebbles.pdf

Further Possibilities

Phychological experiments show that when a subject views in each eye, a completely different image, the brain switches randomly between the two. What happens when the images contain a partially coherant point of view but at the same time conflicting information? This idea is explored to some extent in the 'Beauty & the Spider' above.

Future developments include stereoscopic films with left/right images in conflict with each other.

My first film using this technique is 'Something Old Something new'. A tester really as it was made by salvaging a previously failed (boring) single screen idea. Other than the front title, this film will not appear in 3D. It presents each eye with the same image but not at the same time.

Also, using moving images, a shift in the time sync between left & right eyes' views together with syncing the left sound to the right eye and vice versa may produce unexpected effects on the audience. These shifts in time may use phase slipping of looped sequences creating greater disparity between each eye/ear.
